Light

This is the one book I have been waiting for. It came out just this year and Light, has achieved maximum AWESOMENESS! Its the 'Final play' and the barrier is now see through. The careful society within the barrier is crumbling as kids see their loved ones for the first time. Food is running out and people are starving. But Sam, Astrid and the gang have a bigger problem. Gaia, the girl possessed by the 'Gaiaphage'. No one knows how to stop her with all her powers, but Gaia is weakening. She too is growing hungry, but she isn't exactly feeding off fish or vegetables. Will School-bus Sam be able to save them again? 'Light is an amazing novel and you NEED to get your copy today! I would recommend maybe having a quick check over the last fews books as it takes a while to remember names and other things.

Oz, the Great and Powerful

This movie is a fantastic film with actors such as James Franco, Mila Kunis, (off Family Guy as Meg), Michelle Williams, Zach Braff and many others. The story is completely made-up by the director or film writer. They just based it as the prequel to 'The Wizard of Oz'. Oz, the fake magician is placed into a new world where wicked witches exist and tiny people live. Also, AWESOME flying monkeys! (the good kind) Oz finds himself confronted by one of the good witches who thinks he is the wizard from the great prophecy! Oz, (who isn't actually a wizard), finds himself in a spot of bother and ends up giving his secret to his cheeky, flying monkey companion. Oz, the Great and Powerful is a fantastic movie but I will admit, I got a bit scared at some parts so maybe not for young viewers, but yet again, I get scared easily. Watch the trailer to see more!

Trash

Trash is a wonderful, short story that is magically written. It is told through different writing entries by different characters in the story. I personally found it easy to follow, but apparently other people think otherwise. (I was trying to find out if this was a sci-fi book or not... it isn't by the way) Anyway, it is about three friends who  are all dump-site boys who end up finding something very special that they weren't meant to find at all. A small leather bag with a wallet, a key and a map as it's contents. It turn's into a wild goose chase as the police go after them and they follow the clues to their hidden treasure. A great read that I definitely recommend. Audience for pre-teens and older.

 (I'm being harsh on this)
I hope you enjoy it as much as I did.

To Kill A MockingBird

To Kill A Mocking Bird is an American classic. It is a beautiful tale told through the eyes of a young girl as she is growing up in a world were not everyone is equal. As her brother and her work their way through school and life, they're father teaches them most of their 'Life Lessons'. I don't want to give to much away but her father, (who is a lawyer), is pulled into a case that follows a black man charged of rape. This is a wonderful tale but probably not for young readers. Mostly for confident readers. I learnt a lot from this book about how unfair some white-skinned people were and how they took advantage over a small difference between two types of people. Towards then, I would definitely recommend of have a clear route to a tissue box. Recommend it to EVERYONE you know!

Cape Reinga

Cape Reinga
If you're a Kiwi like me, you will know that Cape Reinga is the very top of New Zealand and the spot where the Pacific Sea and Tasman Sea meet. As it was just Easter, my family and I went on a Tiki Tour of the top of the North Island, so we thought it fit to visit this special land mark. The road leading up to it is all tar-seal now, (it use to be dirt roads), so much easier and quicker to get to. There is heaps of parking and there are loads of bus tours you can go on. Of course, the view is amazing! You can stand right at the edge and look out and you just see ocean as far as the eye can see. There are lots of signs along the way pointing out the nature or the spiritual beliefs of the Maori. At the bottom by the Light house, (yes, there is a light house), there is a really cool sign pointing out which direction Los Angeles is, also the South Pole, China and others that I can't remember off the top of my head. Do bring your togs if it is a hot day for once you're finished looking, down the road a bit, (you'll have to take a car I think), is a beautiful beach and camping ground. Do take a camera and good shoes of course but also get ready to stop and go quite a bit for others to take their pictures. Overall, a great NZ landmark that I now feel very glad that I have done. Hope you had a great Easter.

Divergent
Divergent is a fantastic book which, in my opinion is going to be the next big movie after the Hunger Games. The book follows a sixteen year old girl named Beatrice Prior who lives in a very different world from all of us. Her world is cut into factions, each with their own roles and habits. She finds herself in a situation that no one should go through and facing many challenges as she learns where she belongs in this unforgivable world. A brilliant read, definitely recommend it for young teens.

There are more in the series of which I have all read. Read the first one and you'll end up requesting the next one in the series the very next day!
Enjoy

Skullduggery Pleasant

Skulduggery Pleasant is a great book by Derek Landy. I personally enjoyed it as I'm a big lover of magical, fantasy books aka Harry Potter, Hunger Games etc. The book follows the adventure of the detective, Skulduggery Pleasant and his new side kick, a teenage girl by the name of Stephanie Edgley. Many mysterious things are happening in this secret world and promises are being broken. A great read for a Harry Potter fans and also pre-teens and a little younger. Rating: 4 stars
More Books in the series:
  • Playing with Fire
  • The Faceless Ones
  • Dark Days
  • Mortal Coil
  • Death Bringer
  • Kingdom of the Wicked
I'm not to sure if there is an 8th one or not but the first one is called 'Skulduggery Pleasant'
I hope you enjoy them as much as I did. I will let you know how I get on with the next one's in the series.
